Mentioned this one last week, and finally got a blurry photo of it.

My neighbour has just acquired this Mk3 Ford Zephyr 6 and he brought it over to show me today. It is the first Mk3 Zephyr 6 I have driven and it didn't disappoint. The car is very original and while it could do with a repaint and some minor cosmetics it is a good survivor. The engine was surprisingly quiet so I would check tappet clearances but there are no issues as far as I can see apart from a slight juddering brake pedal. The column change was positive and the ride was quiet and comfortable. I ended up with a broad grin on my face.!

The styling of these old Fords is lovely. There isn't a single line I would change

Yes, I look at what passes for styling these days and think how much more distinct they were in the past. No wonder they became classics.

I remember as a kid how much I wished my Dad would Get a Zephyr or Zodiac but he was entirely happy with his Mk2 Consul. Considering he had such vast experience it was interesting that he considered them to be among the best cars Ford U.K. had ever made. Personally, I like them all. Very Happy

to be honest apart from performance the consul is just as good, i have a 57 consul and just as many people had one as my mates zephyr, cheaper to run as well!
the best styled ford uk cars imho.

One of the first Mk3s being a '63. You can't keep a good car down.
Looks very tidy & has the benefit of full syncro gearbox never available
on Mk2s. Used as traffic cars by many police forces. Nice to see a good one, cheers,JD.

Hi
Spotted this early Rangie last Friday, though it was parked on the main road behind the camera.

Interesting location for the front number plate! Is that allowed in the UK?

Hi
The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001
Quote:
a registration plate must be fixed in the manner required by paragraph (3) on—

(a)the front of the vehicle, and
(b)the rear of—
(i)the vehicle or,
(ii)where the vehicle is towing a trailer, the trailer or,
(iii)where the vehicle is towing more than one trailer, the rearmost trailer.
(3) This paragraph requires each plate to be fixed—

(a)in a vertical position or, where that is not possible, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable, and
(b)in such a position that in normal daylight the characters of the registration mark are easily distinguishable, in the case of a plate fixed on the front of the vehicle, from in front of the vehicle and, in the case of a plate fixed on the rear of the vehicle or trailer, from behind the vehicle or trailer.

The number plate may be legal....but parking on the pavement definitely is not!

It probably isn't, since it is not on the front of the vehicle!

You are probably right. I just thought as the windscreen is at the "front" ...?

Perhaps it is a debatable point?
