Yesterday I picked up an interesting bike. A Roulandt.
It was the first production bike with a seat, produced between 1983-88. With a price of twice a "normal" bike it never became a succes. A few hundred have been sold.

I first heard of the bike in a TV documentary and since then I looked out for an example on the usual online ads. This week I found one advertised for only €50! So I got it home, pumped up the tyres and lubed the chain, the front light bulb was replaced and all is working.

Easy to ride and very comfortable!

Hi
What function does the rectangular looking component parallel to the bottom tube fulfill?
It appears to have a series of holes which suggests some sort of adjustment possibility.

Exactly. The chain guard can be adjusted according to what position the pedals are. The pedals can be adjusted - although I think a couple of chain links would need to be removed or added if you would do that.

Wow, I love the pedal adjustment for leg length, but with the steering under the seat it looks a stable as a chimp with a Kalashnikov!
