Get the biggest, highest amp battery that will fit, it will save you money in the long run. Lincoln batteries web site has a chart with all the battery specs and sizes that will help you to decide.

Hi Steve. As well as size, as per Alan's post, watch for cable orientation and vertical clearance, such as the bonnet. Then there is securing the battery in place.

Also check the positioning of the two terminals (+ and -) if your HT cables are such that they wouldn't reach if the two terminals switched sides.

The wrong term, but you know what I mean, the battery cables.

My best experience with batteries in new Japanese cars has been with Panasonic batteries lasting over 5 years, well over average for Oz made units. Not widely available here, but worth looking for.
See this page for some useful UK info
https://www.puretyre.co.uk/car-battery-specification-chart/
Sadly it doesnt seem to tell you what the terminal orientation is. My Subaru runs a 55D23L - 540 CCA, Neg pole on Left with poles at front. Annoying that codes are not universal. DIN spec units seem to be low profile, but longer, as in DIN88 (88Ah) in Porsche.
IN general, as above, biggest that will fit in space available.

Quite surprising, this. In my experience batteries last much longer. I have an old heavy Varta which must be over 12 years old and still works well in the car it is in at the moment.
And then there is the one in the X-type on which the Jaguar specialist commented that it was still the original - nearly 15 years old! But I have to say he remarked upon it because he recommended to change it.

Modern batteries last a long time if kept charged. My son has just had to replace the original battery on my old 2001 Mercedes c class estate, since he took it over last year it doesn't get regular use and he has allowed the battery to go flat a couple of times otherwise I think it would still be ok.

In the last 18 years I have replaced one battery on the three cars, ad that was two years back when the Red Top gel battery gave up the ghost. The E-type one is still going strong after 21 years. None are charged over the winter, but are disconnected though.

Well , cooler temps there must help battery life! Have never seen better than 7 years out of a car battery. In Saudi I had a genuine German made Varta drop a cell and die inside a year - and no warranty! Replacement locally made unit lasted well though.

Dont forget to check the coil LT connections - if they are marked + and - it is polarity sensitive and may misbehave if fed the wrong polarity - BTDT. Maybe the condenser needs looking at as well.
