My workmate in Sydney , bought a Marina , he thought it was very "basic ". He soon got rid of it and bought a Mazda , that he kept for many years .

All in all the Marina was a maid of all work but excelled at nothing in particular. It was average.

Me too, same model & age when I purchased it in '78, the newest car I'd ever bought at that time. The steering seemed stiff & wouldn't self-centre without driver input … seized trunnion, a good start to ownership. First long trip I couldn't get the fuel cap off when needing to fill up & never could cure a steering wobble at speed, despite several tyre outlets attempts to balance the wheels.
The car was quite lively but the ride was poor … I sold the thing at a loss after a few months & went back to thirstier, but more comfortable, six-pot cars again.

A great many models have served me well since the 'sixties, all of them old & some even older than me.

Personally, I always liked the Marina and it’s replacement the Ital.
Some days, I wouldn’t work on anything but Marina / Ital variants.
As has been said previously, the Ital probably wasn’t enough of an improvement over the Marina to attract more buyers.
My favourite was the 1300 two door coupe model. Not the fastest of course, and dropped for the Ital range. The 1700 O- series engined Ital estate was a good Lugger. The 15 minute cambelt change, is a huge contrast to the £200–£400 jobs on a lot of modern cars.

Good for you, rare car these days & I think the shape runs rings around any of it's successors especially that ghastly bug-eyed thing Scorpio thing Crying or Very sad
