Sounds stupid, but I am struggling to find a set of contact points for Josephine (Austin A30 1954). Of course, I can get them from Bull Motif, but needless to say at a rip off price. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks, but the import duty to the UK would cost a fortune

Aren't they the same as on a Minor, or an A40? They must be one of the easiest sets to source I'd have thought. Ebay has a few.

That was my first port of call. The only ones that fit are overpriced

I have dealt a few times with Bull Motif, and I hate the company. Apart from that, they want nearly £20 delivered, that's just crazy !!

Thanks, been in contact, and they want £19.20. I think that is over priced

The points from te DD will give years of reliable service. A cheap points set bought somewhere else can maybe give the same service, but you are never sure of that. You pay for the guaranteed quality or you can choose not to.
Compared to prices paid for modern car parts I do not think 20 pounds is expensive for a critical ignition part.

We have sold over a 100 sets of points this year, all sourced from Martin Jay and not had any issues, I use him to supply all our ignition parts as its so difficult to gauge quality on these sorts of components.

I understand what you are saying, but Josephine does no more than 200 miles a year

In which case you will never have to replace the points again!

Your comment reminded me of a story told regarding US Jeep's in WW11; apparently the life expectancy of a Jeep before it was destroyed or captured was so short, that the US Military specified the cheapest components throughout, as a result they got a vehicle that was both cheap...and unreliable!

Whether its true or not I don't know ...

Dave

Martin's one of the "good guys". Buy all my points and condensers from him.

You will get what you're prepared to pay for.

Umm. I can't believe how hard this is. I suspect that the part is a 25D4, but as hard as I search I can't be sure. For sure the part looks similar on the internet. Even my work shop manual only refers to the part suitable for an 848cc engine, whereas mine has an 803cc engine (1954 A30). Believe it or not, I have contacted numerous ebay sellers, and none of them have a part listed for my car. Do you think the 25D4 set will fit (listing below)
