Happy New Year all,
I am working on the instruments and switches for my 1935 Armstrong Siddeley and need to refurbish the headlamp and ignition/starter switches.
Is anyone able to positively ID the Lucas model (and perhaps cross-ref to a more common vehicle)? I haven't found anything that's an exact match from Holden's, Complete Automobilist, etc. The switch has Lucas PLC on it, but it's not a PLC2 or 5/6 etc.
For the headlamp switch, I just need a new face/label. Failing one available to buy, I intend to get some kind of vinyl stick-on label made and stick it over the existing one.
For the ignition/starter switch, I could do the same for the face/label, but I also need to repair the gouged-out key slot. Any advice on tackling that would be very welcome. I have a vague hope that someone is reproducing them (call me an optimist!
Anyhow, photos of the switches for hopeful ID and cross-ref.
Cheers,
Paul.
PS - I desperately owe a progress update on the car, will do that shortly. Great progress made in 2018! _________________ 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series 3

Have you tried ASOC Stores? You will be amazed at just what they have. The Startix especially is going to be a Siddeley peculiarity so I'm sure other club members will be able to help.

I'll try the stores, but not holding my breath for something like this. I don't believe my 17HP has Startix, so this switch must have been swapped in at some point. I'm hoping that a close-up of the ASHT 17HP car will show the correct original switch.
I'd rather stay original than fit a later switch.
Thanks for the ref number though, I'll start googling and see if anything comes up.
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series 3

Startix was at least an option on some Triumph models of much the same era, but don't ask me which..! |

It was fitted to my old neighbour’s Standard 9 (1936 I think).

From my basic knowledge startix was a automatic starting system on a cars of the late 30s, I’ve seen them on Wolsey, standard, and triumph so must be a item that’s still available but I’ve only seen the on off switch’s never seen one with manual, off and auto |

Thanks for the info everone. I wasn't successful in finding good used or reproduction switches, so set about refurbishing the ones I have. Stripped them down, had the bodies rechromed, and had new vinyl labels made with the same text and font as the originals. The ignition/starter switch had the key slot gouged out, so I had that silver soldered closed, then reformed the key slot before getting it chromed.
I had a sheet of labels made, so if anyone else has similar switches, I have some spare.
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ 1963 Sunbeam Alpine Series 3
