Perhaps this young woman should be invited to join OCC. It would be good to see photos of her progress with the restoration.

I share her appreciation of this very attractive vehicle. I have a long repressed hankering to convert a Bedford RL to a motor home with an indestructible off road ability. Like the RL ex army vehicles, these Austins are also becoming hard to find.

She really ought to get some practical help. I am sure OCC would be a good start. Perhaps she could benefit from getting onto one of those courses which teach how to restore vehicles?

I like the bell actually recessed into the front panel.

So many of these old ambulances turn up on ebay and the like, and I wonder how many do ever get saved? Her Austin looks pretty sound overall and well worth the effort. Reminds me of when I first stumbled across the jolly green giant.

I sent the young lady in question a link to the forum, so maybe we'll see a thread on here one day about the Austin's resurrection.

Sounds like a great project Ray, hopefully you're not thinking of high mileages on your holidays. I towed a 25pdr. field gun (not that heavy, about 25cwt) from Essex to Portsmouth & back with a RL & got 7mpg.
nb: the cab gets bloody hot in summer Laughing
