as usual handbrake issues. just failed MOT after only just passing it last year! having spent some time under car going over. everything . can't find any. major issues. discs /pads. good. calipers changed 2 years ago ! mechanism works. with brakes back on rest/stop winds . hand brake cable just slight play. pull on handbrake ( grunt . shoulder wrench) and we have ..rubbish .. having checked all we see . cannot find why brakes simply refuse to 'grip' enough to pass mOT. have noticed discs are very well polished compared to front. any ideas? Have you asked these guys?
https://classicroverforum.net/index.php

Fountain of all P6 knowledge, or were when I had my P6b. I feel your pain. I rebuilt some spare callipers when I did mine. They are over engineered, and answered a question no one asked about brakes. If I had met the designer I'd have snapped his pencils.

I never had any issues with functionality of these calipers on several P6, P6B.
Pad replacement , winding back the piston were a PITA, but otherwise OK. We used to support the diff on a jack, remove the rear bolts through the steel plate and lower the diff to improve access. Were the replacement calipers overhauled? My guess would be the self adjusting is not happening, or there is a cable problem - with good visibility of the calipers check that the cable is moving the arm and pin when the lever is operated.

Probably roughing up the pads and the discs with a fairly course grit paper would suffice to get through test.
