COLD WAR JETS COLLECTION
BRUNTINGTHORPE AIRFIELD
NR LUTTERWORTH
LEICESTERSHIRE
COLD WAR JETS OPEN DAY 2008
Date: Sunday 25 May
Time: Gates open at 10 00am
Location: Bruntingthorpe Airfield
(Just off the A5199 Leicester to Northampton road 9 miles South of Leicester)
A great day out for all of the family is in prospect at the Cold War Jets Open Day, which will feature ‘fast taxy’ runs by all of the resident aircraft including the Comet, Victor, Lightning’s, Canberra, Buccaneer, Jet Provosts, Iskra and Hunter.
These are all vintage aircraft, which played a significant role in keeping the peace during the dangerous years of the ‘Cold War’ and which are now maintained to a high standard by dedicated and hard working teams of volunteers.
The aircraft will carry out spectacular high speed runs throughout the day along the Airfield’s two mile long runway. There will also be the opportunity to view and experience cockpit tours of the other static aircraft in the collection and to externally view the Super Guppy and Boeing 747 ‘Jumbo Jet’. A range of souvenirs and memorabilia will be available in addition to hot and cold refreshments.
All items are subject to availability and serviceability

Taken off the The Vulcan Operating Company web site:
STOP PRESS!
It has been confirmed that XH558 will be taking part in the Show; she will be moved out from her hangar to Pan 1 and will be carrying out static ground demonstrations on two occasions during the day! _________________ Regards,

Well, that was even wetter than last year, and that was wet!!! Never seen horizontal rain before...
Anyway, here are a few shots of the day, just click the thumbs for the full size images.
First off, the English Electric Canberra:
Blackburn Buccaneer:
Can anyone ID this fire truck?? It's got a huge diesel in it, sounds like a V8...
Handley Page Victor:
The worlds only flying Avro Vulcan, only a light engine run, then off to bed for her:
And, in my opinion, the star of the show, the English Electric Lightning, if only you could HEAR this...
Rolls Royce Avon 302, one of two fitted to the Lightning:
And, about an hour after the run. The pipes were still warm...
And, finally, my mate Andy who looks after the two Lightnings got a shot of me leaving Bruntingthorpe stuck behind some pretty special traffic. Thank god she wasn't running...
