Hiya chaps, I need some advice.

The Rubber shroud that goes on my for classic gearbox clutch operating mecnanism has gone hard and brittle with age, i tried heating it up in front of the fire and it went nice and soft i put it back on the gearbox and it went on nicely. The day after though it had gone hard again, anyone got any ideas on how to revitalise them ??????
