update most of the trouble with my van is up front. damp getting in via windows and awning rails. so of with them and out with the front windows to see whats behind them
seemed worse on the off/side/front corner

but once the panels were removed the wood framing was rotton. so removed all dead wood back to good stuff and moved over to the n/s/f

it was as bad so gutted it as well

ok thats all the bad wood gone from the front next step is to start putting new stuff back in Very Happy

by the way just love my toilet

thats it for today

Hi wantone. I'm chairman of the Royale owners Club, and sadly, what you've got there is about the norm for all Royale models, but it's all repairable. Why not check out our website? I'd suggest using your address bar at the top of the screen, as Google doesn't seem to recognise us! You'll also find an application form for membership.

As the man from Royal says ...........Typical but very doable.

We recently did a Touranger. Lovely vans

Have another Royale in now. Same old probs. Many vans suffer from these issues some to a lesser extent but problems around the corners are common and especially the front. It is also common to see the off side seems to suffer worse than the nearisde. And there are various theory's as to why.

We think it is because of the extra exposure while driving in our wonderful climate Smile

got abit more done on the van this week
first replaced the rotten frameing with new

then clad that with 3.4 mm plywood , used ply instead of hardboard for the lower panals

then rebuilt the seating frame that i had to break on both sides to get at the wallboard panals. decided to just remake both areas either side of the draws with new wood

all done at the bottom. moved up to the windows.
i had to remove the wallboard that was glued around the window edge as some was rotted, i dont have enough wall board to match round this area so im covering the area with new plywood then covering it with some canvas ive picked up from a picture framers. this will be glued to the ply and painted when finished, it should blend in with the roof panals.... i hope
here is the ply fitted in place ready to have the window openings cut out
just need some small sections of wall board to match down the sides of the van were it meets the front panal. then recover the window sill and put all the hardwood trim bits back on the edges.... after fitting the window though.

coming along, think its going to work out fine!!! Very Happy

My 1971 Royale T125 had the same problem in the front nearside corner. I have also have a1981 Tourmaster, which seems never to have leaked, however, not even around the lantern windows . . .

Ian, after 1972 the backrest should be hinged at the top. Three hinges, front, back and one in the middle. There should also be a hinged flap on the back of the backrest which drops down when the backrest is pulled forward, thereby supporting the backrest to make it more comfortable when used as a seat. The backrest folds back to make the bed wider when used as a single bed.
Prior to this fitting the seat was too wide to sit on comfortably.
If this isn't very clear give me a ring and I'll try to email you a pic.

Emmerson

here we go again....
cut window openings out and trimmed corner blocks, fitted capping and then it started to rain so up went the blue tarp as im doing all this out in the open........ i spy my little hotrod in the back ground Very Happy

once the rain stopped in went the windows and awning/drip rails

still got to finish the side panals where it meets the front, but ill have to find some matching wall board from somewhere.

moved on to the area over the wall cabinets, a repair by the last owner to a leaky lantern window didnt look very good and had been coverd with wallpaper. thought i could do better so ripped the old repair out and removed the wallpaper.

getting late so give up at this stage

more to come Very Happy
