Hi
Did a bit of quick Googling and found this:
Quote: | #--012
Cherwell District Council has now agreed a policy that could allow some car storage to remain at the
former RAF Upper Heyford, but within the new settlement not on the open airfield. CDC has given
QEK 5 years to reduce storage to a level at which the business could be accommodated and a suitable
site has been allocated. Cllr George Reynolds, Portfolio Holder for Development, explains that
QEK is the sort of employer that CDC is keen to retain in the District and they have worked hard to
incorporate them into the new settlement. But, CDC must also enhance the conservation area, described
by English Heritage as the best example in the country of a Cold War landscape, and into
this they have also had to integrate a new settlement and create a decent living and working environment
for the residents. He goes on to acknowledge that there is potential conflict between this
aim and the car storage and outlines the area which could accommodate car storage as being in the
north east of the settlement, right by the buildings that QEK currently occupies, which is not as big
as that used by QEK at present, but it could accommodate nearly 3,000 cars. CDC has agreed to
offer QEK (and other non-car storage businesses) a 5 year transitional period in which to change
their operations to become a part of the new settlement and now anticipate working closely with the
North Oxfordshire Consortium and the businesses to develop a real community on the site.
The agreed changes are now to be incorporated in the revised Comprehensive Planning Brief, to
guide the future development of the entire site, which is scheduled to be considered for approval by
the CDC Executive at its 5th March meeting. |
So then googled QEK
http://www.qek.com/
I always thought some of those fleet cars looked as if they had been field stored, just like the worst days of the British Car Industry when a new car had been in a field for 6months before you got it. |

There is another similar storage facility at the Bedford Autodrome operated by Jonathan Palmer. This uses the bits of the airfield that he has not converted into a race track.
Google Earth: bletsoe bedford
He has a connection with Volkswagen Audi, so possibly this is VAG UK's stock.
Based on the area occupied I reckon there are over 10000 cars stored, but as VAG sells about 1000 cars per day in the UK, it isn't really that many, so we shouldn't worry too much about any deterioration. _________________ Brian

For a number of years a very good freind of mine kept his rally car there as one of his friends was a senir manager for the car preparation firm that kept all the cars. Whenever I went there there were literally 1000's of cars there - great fum to spot the newer models |

Yep they're still there.
QEK is now called Paragon.
of course, they aren't the same cars there all the time, they get the fleets of cars in re-spray them and then send them on their way.
The upper hayford base is also where the thames Valley police hold their speed awareness workshops. |
