Any body ever tried to obtain a hitchlock for a BB chassis? My newly acquired Royale T125 has one but trying to locate something that will function as a hitch lock is proving a tad challenging. It might have to be a custom made job...unless you folks can tell me otherwise? All hot tips gratefully received!

I had the same problems and then found a very cheap one that is a u-shape with a flat circle that goes inside the ball, and then a cross bar is slid into two slots and goes through the hitch handle and is secured by a padlock.

I try and take some pics tomorrow to show it better.

The enclosed top modern hitchlocks just won't go over the handle on top.

Where did you get your Royale from? Not Kent by any chance?

See if you can find an original B & B Seven lock. These were of the shape of a figure 7 and the top went through the handle and the side, a 'U' profile, fitted over the release catch. A turn of the key and a plunger came down locking the seven lock into the handle preventing the release catch from being used.

It worked both off the towball as well as on. I'll have a look in my loft to see if I still have a leaflet on it.

Hi Max. If you can get to the Cumbria Steam Fair at Flookburgh on the 25th, both Colin and I have hitchlocks we can show you.
Apart from that, you'll get to meet some nice people!
PS, I think there will be around 14 Royales there.

Max

This is my hitchlock - I found it at a local caravan shop.

It might not be pretty but it does the job.

That's the same as Colin's, Brian. Mine is totally different, but works on the same principle. I'll ask Anne to take a pic and email it to you.

Thanks to all posters. This is very helpful and informative. Just wondered if there are any identifying names or makes for these hitchlocks?

There isn't a name on mine, and it didn't need an instruction manual!

I am going to the caravan shop in a few minutes so I'll see if they still have them.

Hi

Our 1979 Stirling has a B & B chassis, and we managed to get a 'Milenco Lightweight Hitchlock' which does fit it OK.

I cannot post a photo as caravan is on storage in Shrops and I am in Wilts!!

Have checked with my husband to confirm that it is a B & B chassis.

Dont know whether this is of any help

Gill

Sorry Max - the shop remembers the hitchlock, but they haven't had one like it for 6-7 years! All the locks they currently offer have the cover that stops them being used on the old style hitch.

Yes they do have them on the towsure web site but...out of stock until August/September!

Another mystery solved.

And another big 'thank you' to all contributors to this thread.
