Hello any fellow xk owners.

Having restored the bodywork,(which is in primer awaiting paintwork), front suspension(axle),and rear axle,my attention has turned to the ENGINE.

I am building up a 3.8 ltr engine to "S" speck.

My question at the moment is which sump shall I fit to avoid any fitment problems?

Other issues are most likely along the way,for which I will ask for EXPERT ADVICE, from willing persons.

The obvious question is do you still have the original engine? If so, that's the sump to use. The XK engines are all the same with variations in sump shape and oil filter arrangement to suit the available space. I'm not an expert but I have dabbled.

As stated I am building up a 3.8 ltr Jaguar engine,the vehicle mechanics were purchased with the car in boxes. Sad

I am building a complete new engine. Very Happy

I have various sumps from different jaguar engines,but do not want fitment or clearence problems,later on . Shocked

I have alloy sumps and steel sumps. Question

I have a sump which came with the car,but is it correct? Question

Looks like you should have the C15964 sump.

If not sign up and avail yourself of the guys who've 'been there done that'. There is one guy (George Camp) who is font of knowledge re. change points and part numbers. He should be able to provide you with the part number of the sump required.

Also local classic vehicle clubs. Very Happy

Vintage and bygones clubs. Very Happy

In fact been there done it so to speak,in the 70`s and 80`s,when all this classic and modified car hobby was taking hold. Very Happy

I just thought someone would know of a flush sided sump i could use,an E Type 4.2 sump is what I needed,thank`s to a fellow restorer for the info. Surprised

I have cupboards full of manuals and parts list`s,these are ok if you are restoring or repairing a vehicle that is standard specification. Rolling Eyes

Step out of these areas and you are on your own,no manual tells you a 3.3ltr Cresta diff will fit in a bedford CF axle,making it better geared,after fitting a Rover V8 lump or a 350 chevy V8. Cool

I have been modifying Jag engines for years,infact we were machining the crankshafts to fit modern seals years before it became the norm. Surprised

I have been using different blocks,heads,oil pumps,water pumps,carburetors, braking stystems etc etc for years,I think we must have purchased more jag axles in the 80`s to fit under custom and modified vehicles than there are left. Sad

If i was replacing items on the vehicle with standard parts, a workshop manual or parts book would surfice,I am modifying or improving the vehicle for modern driving, so need to improve on a fine William Lyons vehicle from the 1950`s.

I am only improving the mechanicals,no spoilers or flames for this iconic vehicle.. Shocked

I have found out a E Type 4.2 sump is what I need. Very Happy Sorted.

Or pay through the nose for an XK150 one. Shocked

If anyone has improved their XK150,using alternative parts please let me know, thanks in advance.Very Happy
