I'm keen to insure against overheating this summer by fitting a Kenlowe fan or similar. However, my car is 6 volts. Is there any way I can run a 12 volt fan using my 6v system (i.e. with a transformer or whatever) or do I have to source a 6v fan?

Is there a supplier of suitable transformers in the UK that allows use of 12v accessories in a 6v car?

Thanks in anticipation of your suggestions/advice Smile

(in case you're wondering, it's a 1956 Ford Pop 103E)

There are plenty out there

Just type in "6 Volt radiator fan" in your search engine

I came up with 48,500 sites

Must be one closer to home for you

As a matter of interest, what car is it? Maybe look at the condition of the radiator and water pump to avoid overheating problems.

Coincidently I have been playing around with a 6v to 12v converter of my own design (my original training was electronic engineering) , so that 12v stuff like radio's , sat nav, phone chargers etc could be used in cars with 6v systems.

A transformer could be used to double the voltage if we were dealing with AC, DC however is a tad more complicated and needs a bit of electronics.

However if you can get a 6v fan this would be the best option as it avoids complication.
