Couldn't the balancer have included the clutch and flywheel when doing the crank? I've never seen it done so I don't know how this is accomplished. I ask because I had a BMC 1800 engine balanced and blueprinted in the 60s and they asked for the clutch and flywheel. The end result was an engine that could rev to 7000 RPM.

I can tell you, there have been times when I seriously did think it would get the better of me and I should sell up and find some less problematic vehicle to spend my time on.

As I understand it they balance the crank alone then bolt on the flywheel and make appropriate corrections to it, then add the clutch cover and rebalance again.
It should work out fine and each element should end up balanced in its own right but if for example the crank was not balanced perfectly then it could be that balance was achieved for the crank and flywheel with neither being balanced individually. If that had been the case then assembling the flywheel 180 degrees out could turn the balanced whole into a horribly unbalance whole.
She is much smoother at high revs now but the little vibration at 1600 just
