Hi all,
Does anyone know what thread the small raised countersunk machine screws are that hold a lucas wiper motor to the windscreen of a 30's sports car?
Thanks

Hi Hillman,

I would suspect they will be BA or BSF. Can you count the threads per inch and measure the diameter?

Peter

I think I've been down this road!

I hope I'm right, but I believe BA is the correct thread for most small Lucas things. Your local model railway shop will have them in stock.

I agree, they will almost certainly be of the BA family, but if the screws were supplied by Lucas (rather than being furnished by Hillman to go with their screen) there is a chance they may be one of the rare odd-numbered sizes. As 99% of BA screw applications used even-numbered sizes (0BA, 2BA, 4BA etc), be prepared for some puzzled faces and scratched heads if it's a 3BA for example.

But a reasonable guess is that they will turn out to be 2BA, a popular and sensible size and not hard to find from many fastener suppliers - or indeed your model railway shop, good idea Mr Peters.

Wow. Someone selling 3BA screws in boxes of 100! Now that's what I call a specalist! Also try http://stainlessautomotivefastenings.co.uk, they sell screws with unusual threads (e.g. BSF, BA) in stainless steel. But order by phone to find out whether they have stock, or you may end up waiting weeks.
