We were out last Sunday in the 1.5 and I noticed it was running a bit 'wuffly' - it was a very damp day. As far as I can tell, the HT leads haven't been changed in years and may even be the originals from 1963, they have very old plug tops on them.

Any opinions on whether it's worth changing them and if so, is there any difference in what's on the market? All I've done in the past is buy a length of cable and cut my own but that was quite some time ago.

Its well worth changing them - Auto Electric Supplies and Holdens do all the bits and modern HT parts can be had from Vehicle Wiring Products.

Nothing wrong with old copper coil ones if you fit suppressed plug caps or use modern suppressed cables - just cut off end if you have old style dizzy cap

Don't change them until you find out what the cause of the 'wufflyness' is!

Could be anything from points, plugs, to fuel filter.

True but points and plugs are new-ish and OK. I'm tempted to replace the leads in any case as they're a complete unknown and definitely very old. Hadn't thought of fuel filter, will check over the weekend.

Thanks Phil for the suppliers, will have a look.

Have look under the bonnet in pitch darkness with the engine running. If the plug leads are doing an imitation of Blackpool Illuminations they definitely need changing.
