Can anyone tell me how to make this clock working please? The part that sets the time won't move neither to the left nor to the right. However once pushed in, the hands can move in forward and backward directions. Thanks |

If this a clockwork clock then I would expect it to turn in one direction on the ratchet and to wind the spring in the other direction. If the clock is already fully wound and the escapement is not running then it won't wind further.
If it's an electric clock then the action of pushing in the winder should click the clock into life if it's clean enough to run.
Most of these car clocks need attention/cleaning to make them run.

Can you remove the clock if it's electric there may not be a feed to it which is easy enough to check with a multimeter if it has a feed check the earth if all this is ok then i am afraid it will be a case of getting it looked at. |

Thanks for your feedback. According to the Rover P2 workshop manual this Jaeger clock is an 8 day mechanical clock. Regards |

I don't want to get into too many technical details, but basically, if there are cables going into the clock, it is likely to be electric, if not then it has to be wound by hand.
Other than that I am afraid I can't help much... |

John,
Thanks for scanning the Smiths C Type article. That's really informative.

John,
I will make a copy of the information that you have posted and include in my file about the Rover P2. Thanks again.

Gave up trying to get my P3 clock to work so have fitted a modern mech into the housing with the wires running to a 1.5v battery holder bluetacked out of sight behind the dash, fiddly job but the clock keeps time and with the new hands filed to shape and painted to look like the orig ones its quite a neat job. The whole job cost less than a fiver too and could be put back to orig anytime if I wanted to. _________________ If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off |

I have done that on my pre-war P2 which has the 8 day cloeck. I have got another 8 day one which now works and I modified another old one. It works very well and looks the part the only problem being is that I have to remove the engine bulkhead inspection plate to access the rear of the dash to change the time when clocks go back/foward _________________ Rover P2
