Hi

I am looking to buy some 1/4" drill bits, or maybe a bit bigger, need to be HSS really, and the important bit, I need about 50 or a 100 of them, any one know of anywhere willing to strike a deal on such a large number or drill bits all of one size?

I have seen some on ebay, but they are all different sizes and too small really, as I dare not go smaller than 1/4" with the depth we are drilling. You will laugh at the depth, it is about 130mm thick, made up of three pieces of plate, we have managed to do a about 10 or 15 but broken no end of drill bits, so thought it might be a good idea to have a few bits bought at once.

Cheers

Dave

That sounds like wholesale numbers, why not try tool wholesalers.

Sounds like you need some gun drilling bits, the type that they use for drilling the oil ways in crank shafts. Google Gun drilling. it will give you an idea.

Hi

Do you know of any tool wholesalers?

Can you mount a Gun drill in a portable hand drill, I have a morse taper hand drill if that helps, just the thing we are drilling is over 3 ton, so it is a majour job moving it around.

Cheers

Hi Dave

Can you beg steal or borrow a portable magnetic drill press? I have drill bits that are like a hot knife in butter when in the lathe or a drill press, use them in a hand drill and it's like they are blunt! and thats when I break them!

Hi

We have a mag drill, but with the chuck in it there isn't a great depth that it will drill, we have the very slow hand drill that we have rigged up a strong arm to use in combination with, we were thinking maybe a cheap drill press you know the ones in machine mart that go on the bench, or maybe it might be worth bringing the radial arm drill to the work, but that is a whole load of work! We have been thinking about this alot as you may tell, hehe.

Cheers
