My leaking manifold saga is ongoing, middle of November its going back to car hospital to have the issue resolved once and for all. The manifolds will be skimmed as was suggested in previous threads, thanks for all your responses
Whilst the manifolds are off I am having the cylinder head taken off and valves attended to, also valve guides replaced (not sure what they are made from) The pistons will be pushed up from underneath and the rings replaced.
This was all planned for next year but decided to 'bite the bullet', the engine currently smoke badly until its fully warmed up and so this work should see vast improvements. Highly trusted engineering Companies will be doing the work for me, I just don't have an clue what the bill will be?? Any comment or considerations received with thanks.

If the work was about to be done soon now is the time, end of season etc.
Better than getting half way through a new season and then have to twiddle your thumbs waiting for the work to finish.
Any chance of getting photos of the work, and progress of work.

Is this an OHV engine?
If it is and you are having the head off anyway, then you might as well get the manifold face on the head checked for trueness and trued up if necessary at the same time as you get the actual manifold done.

Yes its an Vauxhall 20/60 six cylinder OHV engine. Many thanks for comments and advise, much appreciated.

The engineering company invited me to take pictures of the work in progress, I will post these up with an little narrative in due course.

A little update, my Vauxhall is still currently languishing in the repair garage with the engine stripped down. The good news is that the engine is in good condition generally, however I am having new piston rings made as the old ones are not quite as good as they could be. Has anyone any idea of cost of making new rings please? Looks like four rings on each piston x six pistons.

I was hoping the car would be ready for end of the month but that is looking less likely now

Are you ok for gsks as i have a few mostly cyl head gsks originals most are vauxhall.

UPDATE : car is back on the road and have to say that the garage completed the work to a very high standard.
Custom piston rings (24)
Strip/clean/inspect head
Machine and insert new valve seats
Skim head face
Machine manifold faces and make new spacers.
Remove bonnet, radiator, front panel, remove head, remove under tray,sump and timing gear, remove six pistons via bottom of engine.
Remove head studs and hone bores.
Clean block face.
Individually gap new rings to suit piston in bore.
Fit pistons and reassemble bottom end and top end.
Set valve clearances.
Strip and clean carb.
Road test.
2,422 pounds + VAT
Seemed to be very reasonable to me, what say you.

As a PC techo mug I find it tricky to post piccies. I will ask my Son tonight to help me out and get a few posted up.
As for the bill for the work, at almost 600 pounds tax that is the part that really grates with me. So under 2.5K and what it buys, its not so bad I guess, but of course if only I was more capable and confident to be able to DIY on the engine I could have saved 1400 pounds labour cost.
