I'm a complete novice when it comes to cars as you will see from the posts I will be placing. But hey ho everyone has to start some where.
Anyway, I've recently bought a Triumph Vitesse and the previous owner had removed a gauge of some type so thought I'd better fit something to hide the hole. Have therefore decided on a volt meter as hopefully this is something simple.
Does it matter where I take the live feed from? The gauge is made by Smiths but as far as I can tell there are no markings on it to tell which is negative or positive connections. If I connect them wrongly will it do any damage or better still how can I identify the correct terminals?
Any advice would be appreciated. |

There will be a terminal for the backlight which should be on the end of a removable bulbholder which connects to the instruments lights feed and another which connects to the ignition supply - if the gauge is comparatively new then it will need a -ve earth system which only became common on UK cars from later 1960's . If old gauge it may be dual ploarty and will have a third earth terminal
It is best to fit a line fuse into the ignition feed to it _________________ Rover P2
