Can anyone help. My friend has a kit car with an 1800 TC Marina doner. His steering box is completely shot an needs a replacement. Does anyone have such a box or is it the same as another car? Thanks in advance.

The Marina never had a steering box, it was equipped with a rack. If your mate has a steering box it won't be Marina. If he has a Marina rack, these are still available exchange. Apart from gaiters and track rod ends, parts were never very available, so recon. / exchange was least bother. Not seen a Marina or Ital, car or van in any local scrappies for ages.

Wow that was helpfull. Usually the chaps on OCC don't pick holes in each other but say " you can get an exchange at **********". I think you are on the wrong site. Try the Morris Register.

exbmc's reply seemed spot on to me, he merely explained that the Marina had a rack & pinion as opposed to a conventional steering box and that exchange was the way to go if he had a exchange unit.

I agree it sounded like a well reasoned response to me, what do you think was offensive?

exbmc's reply seemed fair enough to me, he could have chosen not to reply or provide any more information.

Exchange units are very rare and his rack is propably past a recon. As I have re-looked at trying to source an exchange, this has now taken up the time that I had. As I am in the middle of 3 inspections I was hoping for the normal good quality advise that this site provides.

Guys, we are all missing the point here. An enthusiast is in a VOR situation and we ought to be able to offer some constructive help. We need to establish if the vehicle has a steering rack or a steering box, bearing in mind that it is a special. I am wondering if it is one of the Naylor Garages/Hudson MG look-a-likes as I am sure I have seen these using Marina parts.
I am not sure what steering these employed, but if it is a box then maybe it came from an A60 or A35. What is needed is to understand what the question is and then try to help. If the source was something in the BMlandver group then Earl Part could be a good starting point.

Speedy Spares have got a Mk11 marina rack: £20, saw it the other day when sorting out some MGA bits and bobs, just checked on their web site and its still there.

Unfortunately seems their site isnt updated regularly. Recently wanted a clutch and pressure plate for the hunter and saw them listed on their website and was relieved only for them to tell me they do not have in stock and that normally they are exchange units!! Sad
but you loose nothing by asking about the rack!
HEre's their email address
