|
|
I've just bought a crypton 350 Motorscope on ebay and it's proving...a challenge... to figure out. The secondary ignition (HT) trace is all over the place. Instead of a nice flat line with the requisite squiggles, I'm getting 4 overlaid sine waves, a different one for each of the 4 cylinders. In short a mess. The primary circuit produces a waveform thats expected in the book. I'm not sure if its the car, a 1989 Landrover 110 2.5 petro,l or the scope. Does anyone have a copy of the Crypton "corrective service" manual? I have the main manual for the scope but not the manual for the "scope interface module" |

Hi
It sounds as if you need to expand the trace , you should have 4 waves each one representing the voltage that the particular cylinder is firing.
The video below (click on the pic; about 1 min 30 secs in shows the trace clearly) gives you some idea what the trace should look like, at low rev's the trace can be messy.
I have a spare corrective service manual if you need one.

Hello Dave,
Thanks very much for this...very interesting. I'm not sure how to expand the trace but I'll look in the manual. I'd be interested in the copy of corrective service, how much do you want for it? |

I wonder if it might be a broken or poor signal ground connection?

Hi Culp
I'll PM you re the manual.
The pickups for the trace are inductive clips, one goes on on the coil to dizzy lead, the other on number 1 cylinder, the later one is used as a sync, if its faulty you could end up with all the cylinder traces overlayed.
