Dave
I think you really need the "Wow & Flutter" meter! , when was the last time you saw one of these ? they are getting rare these days !
I think it cost about £750 20 years ago ! and it could be yours for 99p Its a future classic !!!
Going to put a load more stuff on at the weekend, now in the good books with my better half
Cheers Dave |

Hi
He he
What is this flutter meter?
Engine wise I am thinking about it, and will keep my eye on it! My mate and I have a special interest in small engines and stationary stuff for some reason!
Make sure you remind us, once you have put your other stuff on!
Cheers

Hi Dave
You plug it in to the aerial or video input of a TV and it generates various patterns like this one;
TV repairers use them to set up the picture correctly, i.e. is the picture straight both horizontally and vertically, check for any “bleed” between the colours or ghosting of the picture.
I used to work for Sharp, doing design work mainly on VHS video and CD audio systems, but also helped my mate at weekends who runs a business that supplies audio, visual and lighting systems to mainly bars and clubs. I used it to set up multiple TV screens which had a signal from the same source. Getting high quality pictures everywhere could be tricky, you would have to boost the signal in some areas and reduce it in others, to get rid of snow and ghosting etc.
I’m sure you need one !!!!!!

Did you ever have a cheap cassette player, or one with low batteries and the sound was "wobberly", well that would be a very extreme case of wow & flutter!!!
In analogue audio systems, particularly tape systems, wow and flutter a measurement of the pitch shifting and pitch stability.
Wow refers to slow shifts in pitch (i.e. speed) and flutter to faster, vibrato like fluctuations. The meter measures these variations and enables you to set up tape systems correctly.

Hi
Hmmm, not sure I need one of those but could be good to play a practical joke on my mate, making funny patterns on the TV!
Cheers
