Our MKII Zodiac has pistons fitted of un-known origin..I don't think they are standard Ford parts but I may be wrong.
Due to an accident where the car fell off a jack the sump was smashed, the jack head hit the rear conrod and that piston failed..i'm not sure if that caused it but the piston lost it's lower "skirt" and ring several thousand miles later.
Can anyone confirm (A) this isn't a standard piston (flat crown not dished) and (B) who made these and where I could find another?

Real bad luck

Many pattern pistons were fitted in those days on rebuilds. Problem is unless you replace whole set is finding one of the same make as one from another set will be different weight sometimes quite a bit never mind appearance.

If FW Thorntons do not have one or set then they will not exist. Not be cheap though

Thanks Phil. The engine was only re-built 18 months ago so i'm hoping the guy who built it will know more but i'm not holding my breath.

The BHB stamped on the crown is the manufacturer. It's an old name, and i can't say if they are still in existence. They were a part of the Sheepbridge group, if i remember correctly. Perhaps they still make pistons, as your engine was rebuilt only 18 months ago, it could be that they do.

As they are four ring pistons they are aftermarket quite possibly Sheepbridge as stated - OE pistons were three ring. You could try John Blythe at Goldendays - a very helpful & knowledgeable chap - 01603 881155, cheers,JD.

Thanks all. They appear to be standard pistons but the oversize item is proving hard to find..there is one on ebay at the moment..it's in Australia.
The car was due to be leaving for a rally in Belgium tomorrow morning..we have a spare engine but it has never been tried and is in a basement 15 miles away. So the pressure is off but the hunt is still on.
