what am i looking for when buying a battery for my 1962 a40?

It'd be worth picking up a workshop manual, or at the very least a handbook, for the A40, it'd help with the rebuild a lot.

It'd be a 12v battery, not sure of the Amps rating offhand.

Check to make sure whatever battery you buy, has the terminals the correct way around to match the length of your two battery leads, otherwise you'll end up having to make new leads to reach.

The first Farina A40 used a Lucas BT 7A which is a 43 amp-hr battery.

my minis both have a 45 amp battery, one does also share starting duties on the hunter so I say with such a battery you should be ok for the a40.
however as rick suggested make sure the polarities are in the correct position
