Hoping this might be of help to some.

To post images/photos most will know you need an image sharing website.
There are plenty to choose from, I use photobucket, to lazy, and too many photos on there, to change now.

So I'll open this tutorial with photobucket, I think most of the others are similar enough to get the idea.

OK
go to photobucket.com and set up an account,

Open an account

Now you need to upload some photos

Now choose the files/images from wherever you save them

Right, now you should have some images ready to post to blogs/forums etc.

To post the image you need to click on the 'IMG code'
scroll over the image to open the drop down, the IMG code is usually the bottom slot.
Place the cursor over the text window and right click, the text should momentarily change to 'copied'

Same IMG code with the full image is to the right of the image

The 'IMG code' is the link you need to paste to the website.

Now you have clicked and saved, go to the post you wish to upload to.
Click on the page to set the cursor then hold down the 'Ctrl' key and click on'V' (Ctrl+V)

If anyone needs more help PM me and I can talk you through it.

A handy tool to know

Sizing of images can be done before uploading to photobucket with plenty of image editing software,
or an image sizing software,I use 'pixresizer' free download from the web.

But photobucket also allows you to resize images for posting to forums.
One handy thing about this is you don't lose the link.
Any resizing of the image takes place next time the page is refreshed (f5) or reopened.
This is handy as you don't need to open the 'edit' option to resize.

Default sizing or custom sizing can be done
Just scroll close to the top of the image to open the drop down.

Interesting, thanks RH, I'll include a link to this thread in the Posting Photographs link shown in the menu above.

I have struggled with Photobucket, but someone suggested Image Shack.
I found that much quicker and less confusing.
I will not go back to Photo bucket.
Jim.

There are quite a few out there Jim

I've been with photobucket for about 6/7 years too lazy to change.

I posted this in the hope that some will at least try to resize photos for the site.
If I open a thread and the bottom drag bar is needed I don't bother going any further.
I can't be assed with having to drag back and forth two or three pages for each line of text.
Or am I missing something, are we supposed to post over size pictures.

Tsk Tsk!

Internet Options - Advanced - Multi media - check box 'enable automatic image resizing.'

Simples!

Roger - what's the best size to aim for? 400x400?

Julian & Dave - that's not entirely the solution - long text lines in posts will also cause the same need to scroll left & right. In conventional e-mail programs, word-wrap is usually set to 72 but I haven't found a solution in the forum - I think it's up to the poster not to send un-wrapped lines.

I am not sure how it is set up, but I never resize a pic, just use photobucket, as it is the most user friendly site I have found for hosting pics, for free. tried image shack and others, but they all seem very unlogical in their aproach.

Photobucket has my vote! Smile

I never have problems - maybe you're on an outdated browser version or old version of IE? Can you post a url with the 'word wrap' problem thingy and I'll give it a go?

My 'net-book' and desk top PC are always fine.

Yep I think the problem is just an Internet Explorer problem, I cant see how to get round the text sizing, but I bet there is a setting that just need changing;

I use a MAC at home and that's fine both text and pics are re-sized.

On my work laptop with Internet Explorer version 8 , the pics re size but the text box doesn't. I have 2 other web browsers on my laptop; Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, both of these will re-size pics and text, both are free, if you are used to Internet Explorer Mozzila Firefox is just about identical.

Below are screen shots of the same page, with Internet Explorer and the Mozilla Firefox, from the same laptop.

Mozilla Firefox

One of the internet forums I use, I think it's Landrover UK, allows you to put any image into a post direct from your own stored pictures and the site automatically resizes the image and puts it into the post, no messing about with resizing or opening a Photobucket account.
All websites should opperate like this in my opinion, simples!

Sorry you don't like the current arrangements, but I don't have time to do any major upgrades right now.

Yes, true, but sticking them on photobucket is easy when you've done it a few times and then you have the images stored forever. With 'free-space' on a forum you find that they can just disappear and you can't browse your images easily when remote from your main PC - as I like to do.

I tried it on the Caterpillar (ACMOC) forum and found no advantage to be honest.

I find the trick with Photobucket is not to try any 'bulk' uploading during the evening when their server must be flat out and things grind to a halt.

JohnDale has advised me that PhotoBucket has changed how it works, so for everyone's benefit:

----------

FYI the methodology on Photobucket to copy the URL is now changed.
To get the link now it is necessary to click on the gear wheel in the top RH corner.
This brings up a sub menu with various links in it – you then click on the img link
second from bottom – the background in the link changes to yellow & says ‘copied’
Then all that needs to happen is to right click & paste within your post – job done.

----------

Thanks JD.
