Right!........ the advice I received prompted me to get off my backside and climb through the rat infested shed to find the exhaust bits.
I now think I have more than enough Metalwork/Info for someone to at least copy what was on the car.
-50" of slight curve 1.5" downpipe
-21" long 4" dia silencer
-1.25" straight(ish) pipe out with a hop over the rear axle
Is it worth going for a Stainless exhaust?...people say it costs at least twice as much?!
Given that I would be unlikely to do more than a 1000 miles a year, wouldn't a Mild steel version last many many years?
It seems easy get some pipe & 'Flexible' pipe off FleaBay...should I have go myself, or is there no glory in it?
Its a shame when firms grow and the original principles don't seem to filter down
Dave
I know, I bet that this is a local issue, probably just the ethics filtering down from a local manager.
My mate, who runs a very busy non-franchised general repair garage says that he constantly has to play one off against another as they start to hike the prices on the sly. I think profit margins for motor factors are a bit thin, thus they rely on volume sales and the odd bit of opportunist pricing!

With reference to low milage and Mild steel exhaust
It is the fact that the engine and exhaust don't get hot enough for long enough.
This allows any condensation to form acids and rot out the exhaust.
I had a BMW that I used to travel to work, 5 miles there and 5 back.
Had to carry the stuff for my work.
I had to renew three exhausts in just as many years due to rotting out.

Well, I am in Colchester and had the same problem with a similar car (wolseley nine....) got a kit of bits from red star in Braintree, they were very helpful and let me borrow lots of different bends and silencers until I found a combo that fitted., but I suspect many good exhaust supplies are happy to cut, heat and bend to order. _________________ Wolseley Nine 1934
