Does anyone on here have any Chronometric Speedo bits I can scrounge (or even pay for! )?
In particular the comb leaf spring which controls the main odometer.
I believe the main component parts are identical (even the "D" shaped ones) for cars and motorbikes.
I think I have obtained all the parts to ressurect a Triumph 5T Speed Twin Unit except for the leaf spring.
I pinched the spring to repair another which failed last week.

Hi Jim,
I don't know if this would help, but this chap in Tunbridge Wells is a really nice guy...unfortunately last time I spoke to him he was thinking of retiring but the amount of equipment and parts he had was amazing!

Since I stared this thread a decrepit looking Chronometric Speedo came up on eBay.
I thought I would watch it as a possible purchase for spares.
The listing said "found in a drawer" and " not known whether working or not"
It sold for £105.05!
DID NOT BUY IT!

My Speedo problem started by the needle movng erratically. Turning the speedo over after removing it, a foreign body fell out from inside. The centre contact from an old bulb holder. Which I thought had jammed the mechanism.
Obviously the problem thought I, having tried it with my electric drill.
After replacing the speedo. An awkward fingers only job on a Triumph with Nacelle and Avon Fairing. It proved no better.
Removing it again I dismantled it , cleaned it up and detecting no fault rebuilt and lubricated it. Quite proud of myself now, because the Chronometric Speedo internals resemble a watch more than anything else. With an escapment mechanism and built with tiny parts and springs and screws to match. Put it back after re-testing it and found it would still not register over 30mph and only logged about half the mileage.
Third innings. Removed the cable this time to find the square on the speedo end of the cable, which appears to be fine until removed and inspected closely. Has worn by an almost invisible amount, but just enough to allow it to rotate in the speedo square as speed increases.
There must be a Moral somewhere! Make up your own!
New cable and everything is fine now.
Jim.
By the way, the speedo I first mentioned was one I acquired as a spare. _________________ Quote from my late Dad:- You only need a woman and a car and you have all the problems you
