I am currently trying to decide between two cars. A 1952 Morris Oxford MO Saloon or a 1961 Hillman Minx Series 111B. Both are in pretty good condition and whilst I like the Hillman my Kids want the Morris.

I want something a little more practical (and able to keep up with traffic a little better) than my 1946 Morris Eight Series E.

I have heard that the Morris is a little slow so any practical suggestions would be helpful - only had a Ford Pop 100e and my Morris so far so am a little 'green' with classic cars - lol.

Well I drove both in my youth and the Hillman was most certainly the quickest of the two. The side valve MO (we called it an inflated Minor due to its appearance) was quite gutless.

Edited to add that I recall while neither was very economical on petrol the Hillmann was the least thirsty. Neither were a sporting drive.

Although I like the look of the MO, I think for a regular-user I'd be looking at the Hillman option.

I think that I would go for the Hillman over the Morris as being a more useable car, I have no experience of the fuel consumption of the Morris, but I know that an early 60s Hillman Minx could drink petrol rather quickly.

That was the main reason I moved my Minx on in the day.

well... done the deed! Morris goes and the Minx arrives on Saturday (cant wait to get out in it) - although the kids arn't speaking to me now! But I think I've convinced them it will be more fun and is just another step towards my goal of a Jowett Javelin.
