Mine's draughty and vv cold right now, I have been known to fire up the gas-powered flame heater thing, but by all accounts it kicks out a load of moisture so perhaps not the best option. Looks like extra pullies and warmer headgear are going to be required.

At -27C, (today, some days it gets really cold) insulated and heated garage is really nice to have. Oil fired furnace, with heat ducted down the sides of the garage. A cold stat, overides the room thermostat, so at 5C it start the furnace for 15 minutes. The garage door is also insulated, and there is a silicon draught tube that helps seal between the bottom of the door and the floor.

Not a great deal of own maintenance with the moderns, but fluids, pressures and being able to leave the doors open to help dry the inside is more comfortable. They go through the car wash almost every week, so a bit of warmth prevents doors and windows from freezing solid.

It was warmer outside my garage today then in.

It's tempting to light a Calor Gas heater inside but within minutes the walls, tools and my bench are damp from condensation.

I've installed a couple of 3.7kw slimline storage heaters (picked up cheap on eBay) they use half price nightime electricity, and are programmed to heat the garage at the weekends. They raise the temp by about 12 degrees C.

Keeps the garage warm all day for about £3, and a dry heat as well. I'm also planning on insulating the ceiling, but that means clearing the upstairs 😳 a job I'm not looking forward to.

Cold unless the sun is out
Gets the sun on it all day long, you can feel the heat from the walls.

Been thinking of making a solar water heating system then fit some home made radiators and low powered pumping.
roofs is 10x2.5 mtr.

Must get the roof insulated though as it looks like it's been raining inside sometimes.
Any suggestions as to what to line the roof with, its on a 4-1 slope.

My garage is a toasty 10c at the moment thanks to the twin air-con/heater, if it wasn't for that it would be like a freezer

My garage is cold but not draughty. I got a small convector heater out of B&Ms for £12.99 and its ok. I go into the garage and have a coffee and a smoke while she watches the soaps.

I bought a second hand gasheater for 200 pounds which I hung up high. I connected it to the main gas line from the house heating.
It can heat the garage to 16 degrees or more (which is not needed I think) when the poutside temp is minus 5 degrees. Excellent!

As mine is in a block of four in a residents' parking area it's always cold and dark (no power in it). Consequently I'm looking for a double or triple garage with a house attached.

Surprisingly I have been roasting the last few days, I have no heating, but who needs heating when you have lots of burning to be done. Smile

Definateley the time of year to be doing it....

All this talk of garages makes me envious. I've never had one for my own cars,I spent one Christmas taking a gearbox out of my Mk1 transit motorhome laying on my back outside. Then again it would be too big for most garages anyway.

Mine is quite cold, and being quite a large area is quite tricky to heat. As the lighting isn't that special, I have a little halogen floodlamp with a 500w tube, which I find is very good for localised light and heat. Also I picked up a cut-price halogen heater from the local Comet last weekend in case that helps.

If it gets particularly bad I might consider putting up a partition made of something temporary, just to enclose a smaller area to make it easier to heat.

Last year I had the electrolytic rust removal tank set up, basically a plastic box about 18" x 3' with 7" of water in it, and that froze into a solid block of ice. This year I have remembered to empty it in time.

If all else fails I just don't go down there. I am trying to get work done on my project, but as it's all metalwork at the moment it makes it seem even colder.

I have two garages, my own and the use of my neighbour's, but alas I have that much 'junk' in them that all work is done outside. Too blooming cold at the moment though, there's always tomorrow...and the day after....and the day after that................ Confused

Pete.

I´m fortunate in having a double garage but it´s not all that big. Just now the little SMV van and the Stag ar in there. Not draughty but no heating. Have a long shed as well that has 2 vans in it at the moment. No room to do anything. Just a roof and asfalt floor.
