Now Jens has mentioned it, he's right about the rear floorpan. Had to go back to have a look as I hadn't noticed it first time around! |

it has nothing to do with a Mini.
Both Solomorris & Bob2 can veryfi this.
Only mention it, incase you want to fix it, before paint.
Car is coming on really nice

Yes, we fabricated that floor piece out of a Toyota Minivan. It will be covered with FatMat and carpeting. _________________ Richard's Cars - NEW **

Body shop got working again and finally progressed (with more money, of course).
Since the front subframe that came with my engine was for a manual transmission, I had to modify the width and length, measuring from another mini automatic, and the final adjustments this morning when the transmission wouldn't fit.
Finally got the engine in.

I forgot to update this, finally getting some progress a few weeks ago when I was able to get to Tarija and visit the body shop several times a day. We put in the seat belts that I pulled out of the rear of a new delivery van I bought, then painted it Flame Red. That is a three stage paint, first the darker red base coat, then the top color, and finally the clear coat.
I also got the dash re-done, so it is ready to sandwich the wood.
He has been letting the paint harden and is about to undercoat and do a few small things. I hope to be back in a week or so to take it home and connect the engine and wiring.

Time for an update. I did a bit of the wiring and installations of parts at the body shop and when he finished I trailered it home. First thing I did was polish it with Meguairs Ultimate.
Then I put FatMat on the floor and roof
Later I covered the roof with a foam-backed cloth
I made a new wiring harness for the rear and added a third brake light, leaving wires for later addition of the backup lights.
When I tried connecting the computer I discovered that it did not come with the relay control module, so had to order one from the UK, finally got the engine running nicely, but the transmission pit oil out when put in D or R, so I pulled it out and checked the valves, then found the problem in the forward clutch, where everything was bent and the pressure plate broken.
With a little searching I found Martin Altira of KMP Engineering, who fabricates the pressure plates. He is assembling a new forward clutch unit, so I'll be waiting for it before any more progress. _________________ Richard's Cars - NEW **

I still had problems with the transmission after installing the clutch pack, so the engine and sub-frame come out again, making a total of three installs. At least I have it down to 70 minutes for two people to pull the radiator, starter, filter, wires, exhaust, fuel, brake lines, steering, etc. and get the complete unit out through the bottom.
Had to patch one of the motor mounts, using glue and some stainless screws to hold it together while allowing movement.
Aside from some dry o-rings, I was missing the tube that feeds the converter. I also adjusted the bands while I had it apart, so with that fixed, I replaced everything and finished the wiring, set the timing, etc. Runs nicely in and out of the garage, but need to put stronger spring on the brake and accelerator returns to drive safely. Also need to move the muffler to a place where it does not scrape my driveway.
Filled it with 10W-40 Motorcycle JASO MA2 oil to help the AT discs.
Dash and new switches are now installed and wired. Haven't found a practical solution to adding the oil temp gauge, so I'll get something else for that hole. It was easy to put a T for the oil pressure gauge. And of course the Tach is just some wires.

After lots of little adjustments and wiring, rebuilding of the injector body, etc, I drove the pup 18 miles to the body shop for the touchup.
My body guy promised to have the little touchup items finished by Thursday so I came back to town to pick it up. Of course he wasn't finished. Now promises for tomorrow or Tuesday.
So I started on the carpeting, then took yesterday morning off to resolve one other small problem... I hadn't been able to locate a gear shift knob for the automatic transmission. But I did have a dead walnut tree in the back yard, so a little conversion was in order.

99% Finished. -- Always a couple of little things, but now drives nicely, body touchup done, exhaust done, etc. A great drive home after aligning (hard to find a place with adapters for 10" wheels and a ramp narrow enough).
