My 1928 Vauxhall came to me without the key to lock door. I have tried all my old keys lying around with no luck, I do not want to change the lock if this can be avoided, any suggestions please.

Often with old door handles it's possible to dismantle them and remove the barrel, exposing the key number, although if your car has a modern repro handle it may not come apart like the old original doorhandle would have done.

The key number may be stamped on the square shaft, but you may have to try some blanks to find out what series key is needed if its a different pattern to your ignition barrel.

BT
If you can get the cylinder out and find no number there is another way to get over the problem.
Find a key that leaves the tumblers as close to closed then file off the the tumblers.
OK the lock is less secure with relation to a unique key but at least you have a key that works.

Roger

PS
Try http://www.keysisus.co.uk/
They recut a key for me after I lost mine.
Took him about half an hour to find a blank but I came away with three keys.

Hi BT, how did you get on with your door lock, did you manage to get a key or key number?

Not been able to make progress unfortunately. Just had the engine works finished and am recovering from the bill for works. Also the car is at another garage for the making and replacing of door hinge pins. Next up is the door lock and then replacement roof covering Crying or Very sad Old cars, don't you just love 'em.

Call these people.

Not sure if it can be done, they might be able to make a key with with the lock cylinder.
