No I'm not taking one out for a meal
I Have a Ford engine, E93a, 8HP that came with a job lot of Prefect parts.
I also got a 10hp that I am led to believe was a runner last year.
I am trying to find out the age of the 8hp and confirm if it is from a Ford Y.
I believe this can be done from the engine number, but were do I find that info.
The engine number hints to it being a Y as the prefix is RY.
The number is RY 1419097 PC
Said engine has been reconditioned as far as block, crankshaft, con rods and pistons, that is all that came with this engine, also head and sump, head and sump,
The crankshaft has a chain wheel as apposed to a gear drive for the camshaft.
Part of the job lot was a bonnet with the bonnet handle (plane), front grill, some lights and trim, windscreen and a second windscreen frame, fuel tank and bumper all for a Prefect
Also had some part with the sale that fit a Poplar so those were passed on to my mate for his Pop.
All surplus to requirement as the 10hp was was what I wanted, and for the price was a bargain for the 10hp alone. |

Hi Peter
It was through the club I got see the add for the 'job lot'
I've been a member since 1989.
They do tend to be very slow with response to questions,
I asked about the engine three months ago, got an email back a week later, "this has been passed onto ??? ????? and he'll be in touch.
Still waiting.
Can't even remember what the query was
Don't have much luck with them when meeting members at shows either.
Having said that this is only my second year of showing the DLM.
Handy for parts, and insurance.
I'd join a one make club but it would be sooo lonely
Roger
PS. just remembered who has been of more help.

HI Roger,
I've recently acquired a 1937 Ford 7W Ten
Small ford spares have a page with engine no.s but nothing as high as you've mentioned.
http://www.smallfordspares.co.uk/en/model_ident.phtml
I've also had a look in the Dave Turner book "Ford Popular and the small sidevalves" ... this gives the following engine numbers...
First Y Type 1932 - 0001
Last 1937 - 199333
For the Anglia, which also had the 8hp engine...
First Anglia 1939 - 278543
Last E04A 1948 - 369249
First E494A 1948 - 369250
Last E494A 1954 - 482199
Don't know if that helps...
I'm in the same boat ... the engine no. in my Ford isn't original, and I can't make the number match, so I've got to measure various bits of it to try and get an idea hehe
Good luck
Dave |

Hi Roger, RY is factory replacement Y but too many digits in the engine number unless this is to show it's a replacement - original engines only 6 digits, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible
