I remember those little motorcycle vans in Largs when I was a wee boy in the 1950's.
The three small boat businesses (the Halliday, Dick and Hart families) used them to transport odds & sods from their yards down to the beach, regularly you'd see half a dozen rowing-boat oars sticking out of the back canvas flap.
Good to see your Stonefield - and was really pleased to see one of Hayton's Albions, but what really caught my eye was the little 2CV pick-up lurking in the background of your Morris 1000 van picture - would it be one of the RN's versions? |

Thanks for the picture Doug.
I remember when Glasgow Fire Service got its new Hydraulic Platform with its 'Ergonomic' cab in 1968 - it was the talk of the steamie!
Apparently the last word in cab design and comfort - pity its engine didn't match in design, like when it stuck wide open at full revs on the way to a fire and blew its flywheel out through the top of its ergonomic cab!
Four extremely surprised (and lucky) firemen! |

Brings back memories - I was born and brought up in Stranraer and we used to visit Portpatrick quite regularly. I seem to remember that three wheeler from somewhere in Wigtownshire but I guess it lives in the Port' now. I've not been back to the area for about 15 years so nice to see the pictures.
Cheers,
