A site that I "tripped over" whilst looking for something completely different.
The link goes to the first pages of the "Lost" but there is a home page and other info within the site.
As is the norm, for me anyway, I spent some quality time looking through the lists.
http://www.ucapusa.com./lost_marques.htm
Towards the top of the page it reads quote :
What a shame that so many fine automobile manufacturers have closed their doors
To that, I would say that it was not possible to forsee how the motor car would develop and eventually it would be inevitable. For many lost marques, my regrets are for the loss of the thoughts and words that went with the origins of all these vehicles. Was it vanity and a fun idea for some and pure commerce for others ?
Perhaps Sir Alex Issigonis wasn't the first person to sketch a wild idea on the back of a tablecloth, envelope, or napkin. |

Thanks for posting Peter.
Strange that Riley and Humber are included but Austin, Morris and Hillman don't appear.

I can think of quite a few makes which are not mentioned. It appears that site is more of an advertising lark than a serious marque listing. |

I apologise to all the forum members for including a link that is not only inadequate but also commercial, I can assure everyone that I will not be repeating such a gross lack of judgement.

Peter,I didn't critizise your choice,it was simply an observation that the list of marques was far from complete.Being us based,I guess they simply don't know much about continental stuff.Likewise,a continental site would inevitably leave out a great number of us makers.
If you feel I offended you in any way,I apologize sincerely.
Regards.Hans. |
