Great photos. Thanks for taking the time to upload them. Especially the Lancias. I have been known to drool over the Lancia Stratos and Quattro
of the 70's, and to drool twice it was piloted by an attractive French Lady.

Great memories of cold November nights deep in the forest the never to be forgotten sound of the works Stratos rally cars, as their engines roared and backfired. The sound of sumpguards on rock and the bright glow of their lights as they approached.

That was when the RAC rally was a real rally, and long before the whiners, whingers, do gooders and health and safety experts forced it into a motley parade.

After weeks of checking special stage locations, measuring distances and calculating times I would take 4-5 days off work and follow the stages around the country.

Watching most of the cars through a stage and then (very carefully Wink ) leapfrogging to another stage. Remote petrol stations and small village stores would stay open and hotdog stalls would appear in village squares and laybys, just to supply the army of similar minded fans, easily recognised in our mud spattered cars complete with Blue and Red Lombard RAC Rally stickers and flags.

Happy Days
