Ever since I've had my old fairway taxi the front wings have bounced up and down alarmingly on a bumpy road.The headlight and side light bulbs dont last very long and hitting some big bumps at any sort of speed the whole front starts shaking.
reading other forums and talking to other owners its a common and irritating fault.The other day I spent a couple of hours welding up some angle iron supports under the wings going from the bumper mounts to the inner wing mounts.Taking it out afterwards it was much improved with just a shimmy over potholes and a much quieter ride.
Don't you just love it when a plan comes together.

I bought a fairway,a retired london cab,from ebay to replace an old 'work horse' my old Merc 307d van.
The dates on ebay for the MOT expiry and tax were both wrong.Although from a distance it looked quite reasonable for its year,all sorts of rot was hidden under filler and huge amounts of some sort of horrendous mastic.The screen leaked like a sieve when it rained because the surround was rotten under the rubber.The sills had holes two foot long under the stainless steel covers,the door bottoms were non existant under pounds of mastic,the brakes were shot as were the suspension joints and the noise inside the cab was horrendous.

It is now quite pleasant to drive and has proved a capable working vehicle.My only real regret is that its blue but not the normal blue,which I've been unable to match.Also the paint reacts to anything applied over it (its been resprayed many times and the paint film is very thick) making localised repairs turn into much bigger ones.
I would certainly not buy another vehicle on ebay without looking at it first.
