I have a mk4 sprite with the 1275 engine. That time has come when I have to change the oil and filter and it's a nightmare changing the cartridge and avoiding leaks.
Someone told me a later type body could be fitted that takes the screw-on filter? Has any one done this?

I have, on my Triumph Vittesse engine in my Gentry and also on a boat I had, powered by a 1.5 BMC Diesel.
An aluminium casting bolted directly in place of the of the original canister with a shorter (supplied) bolt and the spin off canister fitted the other end of the casting.
Kits were readily available a few years ago, but I imagine demand has fallen, so they may not now be available except as old stock.
Perhaps Europa Cars of Burton on Trent may help?
There is another firm which does a HUGE range of clever mod. bits for custom and kit car builders etc., but I cannot for the life of me remember the name.
Jim.

Car Builder Solutions is the firm I had in mind. I just found it on the 'net.
I have not checked out their list because it is huge! That's up to you! Here's the link.

It's a long long time since i worked on a Sprite, so i may be wrong. If you have a filter head on the front / right of the engine, with a pendant canister and paper element, i think you can fit a filter head off a later "A" series. This would have to be a front wheel drive job, mini or allegro. You could then fit a spin on filter. The head is only held on by two studs and nuts and has an oil pipe attached.

Thanks for that. Just a matter of tracking down an old 'A' series. They used to be lying about everywhere but not so easy to find these days.
My next job on the list.

I know it doesn't help you pigtin, but a friend of mine who has been trying to restore a rapidly crumbling Midget, has today bought a better bodyshell off e-bay. In the deal was a 1098cc engine, and this has had the later filter head fitted, as i mentioned before. It will make filter changes easier, when he eventually gets the car mobile.
