The rebuild on my Austin is progressing Very Happy I have got most of the frame wire brushed and clean, and have finished the diff. I am now working on getting the frame ready to put the motor back on. Something I have been thinking about is the plastic on the steering wheel rim, which has all crumbled off, and I was wondering if there is a method of rebuilding this or not.
here is i pic of what i am talking about Very Happy

Some pics of the engine before and after, as well as the front hubs. Cool

The early steering wheels were covered in celluloid, no idea if this can be reproduced these days.

I have heard of people using Plasti dip, availible from Frosts. It is usually thought of when plier handles need a covering,or other tools.

I understand it goes thin when it is applied so may need several coats.

I am thinking of trying it on an old steering wheel for my BSA trike.

If you use it would you report back?

regards kels.

intresting story behind fitting in those new rings, i found them on ebay, but i didnt know they were oversize by .03 of an inch! we had to grind a little off the tips of the break on each one until they fit right, spent almost all day getting them to fit Rolling Eyes

Steering wheel restoration work, these are the people I used for my vintage Austin about 5 or 6 years ago. WHEELRIGHTS 01524 423453
Not cheap but well worth the money and I can fully recommend them.
