I want to put the wooden body back on my '33 Singer saloon - Ash frame /Steel chassis.
When I removed it, there was felt strip used as padding + lots used to prevent 'creaking' of wood on wood.
Should I replace the felt, or use something else (rubber strip?)......does it hold the water or dry the wood by wicking water it away?
Any thoughts? |

I would have thought that rubber will perish so that is why felt was used but the silicone stuff would be better as a replacement. |

For what its worth, my Austin has rubber "pucks" between the frame and the body to isolate the vibrations and they havent perished after 60 odd years, granted the rubber mounts for the engine are a little spongey and gooey from oil. I think that the felt would wick up moister and hold it there promoting rot and rust, but thats just my take on it. Best of luck |

I'm with Nick.S on this matter, felt is sure to trap moisture, rubber would be much better, it will only perish if in direct sunlight which isn't the case here and it would take quite a long time in that case too!! |
