In the pub the other evening, we were debating about what classic we'd own, with a budget of £10,000 to play with.

My shortlist includes:

- Ford Model A pickup, or
- Jensen C-V8 (might not be a show car for <£10k), or
- Rover P5 (would have to be a really really good one), or
- Volvo 123GT, or
- 3.0CSL BMW

Other suggestions from others were a T series Bentley, or (slightly later) an M5 BMW - ok the latter isnt really a classic, but bound to be one eventually

What would you consider with a 10k budget to play with??

R

Don't forget, the stories about your Chevy and TQ will fit in fine to the new Your Restorations category on the forum Wink

Haven't heard a word about the Studie. Probably better that way. Sad

Haven't forgotten about the '57 & TQ, just been too busy to get at it.
Been out looking at new vehicles for the wife, maybe an early Christmas present if we ever make up our minds or possibly wait till next spring.
Leaning towards an '07 Pontiac Torrent, '07 Chevy Equinox, or the '07 Dodge Magnum wagon. Hemi Power!!! Cool
Also may look at the Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty, & Dodge Nitro.
We like the Chrysler PT Cruiser and Chevy HHR but they're a little small. Need the larger 5-seater with the new granddaughter. Very Happy

hmmmm perhaps a £10k budget offers too many tasty vehicles - how bout £2500, just about enough for a good condition, but not very exciting car, or else a poor example of something perhaps a little more interesting, but bound to have dodgy reliability

I think I'd buy a tidy 122S estate, a GT6, or maybe a really nice A35 van. If it ran a 1275 engine, it'd be a handy thing to charge around in Cool

XJR (supercharged) Jags are coming down into the low £000s now (future classic maybe?), perhaps 2500 would only get a tired old smoker though, so in reality I'd hang on til having some more £ to throw at a good un.

I bet you could get a nice classic motorcycle for 2500 quid, but alas I know nothing about buying/finding a correct one, with all the right bits Rolling Eyes

I thought about this one, and then I asked "Aunty Joe" what she wanted. The answer was a 1950 Studebaker Champion. So I guess I know what my next project is going to be!

My own choice would be some kind of Woody, if one was available for the money.

Hmmm. Can you still pick up a Maserati Khamsin for that kind of money?

Some LPG kits cost under a grand - I'd have thought an oldish Mercedes would be around a grand - a few years back dad had his W126 500SEL converted with a decent conversion, and I think that was a grand or so. His 750iL, with all its electronics and so on, cost about twice that (basically it has 2 sets of everything, one set per bank of cylinders).

Hi all, first post from me, as I'm just looking down the list. From id you can probably guess Smile If the bar is now 2.5k then a scruffy eighties Alfa Romeo GTV (Giugiaro) coupe should just scrape in. Not quite as nice as the earlier ones, but they are nearer the 10k mark.

Hi alfanut, welcome along

Whenever I see mention of the GTV, I think of the Bond film where R Moore is piloting that GTV6 in a race against the clock. Top stuff Very Happy

So what Alfa(s) are you in to???

cheers, Rick

Although at the moment I'm keen on Vauxhall's finest, a Mark 1 Cortina appeals, and actually is one of the few I can think of that would easily span both your £2500 and £10,000 budgets!
