I think someone once suggested to me that the jack in this tool kit was originally used in Austins. If so or even if you think of some other car that was supplied with it, can you tell me if it and its handle were originally painted red?
(My question really only applies to pre-war vehicles.)
Thanks,
Peter

Hi
I think it is going to be one of those cars with a removable panel in the floor in front of the front seats and the bit sticking out from the jack was inserted in a hole in the chassis.
The jack could then be wound up and down while in the car if it was raining.
I had a car fitted like that but am not sure which one it was.

Thanks Penman.
In the SS it slots into a square section welded to the dumb irons and chassis legs at the rear.
Although the photo doesn't show it, the arm has the cross section of an "I" beam.

OK, I recognise the oil can, adjustable and screwdriver as my dad had all of these in his garage when I was a lad.
Prior to me being born he owned a Rover, so Looking at Penman's post I think we can be 99% certain that they are Rover tools. I remember that his Rover had a 'free-wheel' in the drive activated on the over-run if that helps?

Same jack as my Rover 16 - 1938. As said its jacked up through a trap door in the floor boards in front of each front seat.
You still have to get soaking wet to get it from the boot and retreive the spare wheel from the boot lid compartment _________________ Rover P2

Looks the same as the tool kit in a 1948 Jaguar Mk4 2.5 , almost out of time on ebay. |

Yup! There wasn't much change pre-war to immediate post war.

.... And fit the wheel, unless you could do that from underneath/behind the hub.... I think, just wear a coat.... |
