Does anyone know what type of alternator I need to fit a Hillman Minx Series lllb (1961) - will be doing a re-wire of the vehicle through the winter and am just starting to assemble all the required parts and know from past experience that trying to get alternators of the right dimensions can be a pain!

The two biggest problem's are the fan belt, very often on dynamo's ran a different section v-belt, and you will have to make up a support bracket or you may be lucky and only have to make up a spacer for the the bottom bolt to fit an alternator, a Lucas 15 acr should be ok these you should be able to get from a scrap yard and they can be had to fit on the left or right of an engine [different front housing],wiring is no problem, if you buy new Chinese one's are available to directly replace the Lucas one's and are cheap, as for the pulley have a chat with a local supplier i know someone who would make one , can i ask why you want to replace the dynamo they did the job unless you want to fit a lot of extra electrical thing's,also alternator's can be built into a dynamo casing to preserve the image.

An expensive solution but will look the part...

Alternatively just fit an RB340 control box. These are much more intelligent than the old two spool types and you can retain your trusty dynamo.
