The charities that benefit from the funds raised include the Overwater Wheelyboat, http://www.overwaterwheelyboat.co.uk/. The other is an organisation that helps companies get involved with making donations to charities in the area.

I've got display spots booked at Gawsworth Hall on the two May bank holiday Mondays, for the standard classic show, and the recently-introduced "Youngtimers" show for 70s-onward. I'm also at Oulton Park for the VSCC meeting, between those two.

Do you know of anything locally happening for Drive It Day Mike?

I don't, our club is doing a run out to the Peak District somewhere but I haven't heard of anything else. Isn't Sandbach Festival on that weekend, or is that just Saturday now?

I might take the Moggy out for a run on Sunday afternoon, perhaps to Sleap, as the weather's looking good.

Someone pointed out to me today that the Alderford Lake breakfast meeting (formerly Dearnford Lake) nr Whitchurch, on 20th May, now incurs a £2 entry fee for anyone turning up with a car. It'll be interesting to see if that makes a difference. I'm sure they sell plenty of coffees and bacon butties at the on-site cafe, without needing to impose a charge, unless perhaps the charge is refundable in the cafe? that might make (a little more) sense.

On a similar note, the show at The Elephant pub near Nantwich is no more, due to planning permission having been granted for the field behind the pub. The hope is to re-locate the meeting.

Yes, I received the email this morning too. It's a pity, but the field has been fenced off for several weeks now.

I had also heard about the £2 charge at Alderford. As I've nothing to lose by upsetting them as I don't go to it, I emailed the organiser to ask what the £2 was for - sometimes it goes to charity, or towards prizes or stuff like that. I haven't had a reply.

I'll be interested to hear what they say, if they ever do reply. I remembered this afternoon that they manage to charge £2 entry just to visit the car boot sale they also run occasionally.

It takes a while for any show to attain a loyal following, but very little time to lose goodwill, even over just a couple of quid. Maybe it won't make much difference to attendance figures, given that many shows do charge exhibitors now, we'll see.

It's not much, but it'd still be nice to know what it's for, and if it's just for the management company to make a bit of money, I don't necessarily mind that, I'd just like to know.

I notice the latest publicity says "A parking fee of £2 will be levied by the Alderford Lake Management Company", so I guess that's all the answer I'm going to get.

FYI the Cheshire Run (for old lorries and other commercial vehicles) takes place next Sunday (29th), with the half-way halt taking place mid-morning at the A41/A49 truck stop near Whitchurch as usual. At the same time there's a morning old-car meet at The Cholmondeley Arms watering hole, just off the A49.

Ah yes, that was on last year as well. Go straight from there to the VSCC meeting at the Bhurtpore, perhaps?

Someone I bumped into today reckons the £ goes to the air ambulance, which if that's the case then fair enough. Did you get any response to your query?

No, never heard anything back.

You're right, if it's going to a good cause then that's fair enough. But you'd think they would mention it - it's a good thing to be seen to be supporting such things, and the Air Ambulance gets some publicity out of it too.

Agreed. I remain to be convinced, I saw the sign on the roundabout close to Dearnford/Alderford the other day promoting the meet (and mentioning the two quid entry), but there was no mention of where the £ goes.
