Recenly had a long run on the motorway in my Talisman which has a 1500 cc Ford Cortina GT engine. I have always had pretty poor fuel consumption (circa 20 mpg) but have put this down to its modifications (twin 40's etc). However, despite the weather being quite warm, the car temperature never went above 60 degrees apart from traffic when it rises to 80. It has a very good 3 core radiator and an electric fan which I control manually - as far as I can recall the thermostat opens at high 70's. Have now installed a blanking plate on one side of the radiator aperature which has meant a rise to circa mid 70s. I would be comfortable at seeing normal running temperature in the low 80s but would I be correct in thinking this and is having a low running temperature adversly affecting my mpg? _________________ Dinalpin Berlinette (Alpine Renault A110) |

Although not listing a GT, the standard 1500 thermostat is listed as 88c=normal, 92c=winter according to my QH catalogue. |
