Welcome to the forum. I always liked the Counties Austins. I bought an A70 years ago minus the engine and I fitted an Austin Gypsy engine into it. It was a great car but I sold it because someone previously had sold the number plate and was re registered BHN737B and it didnt look right on a 1954 car.........Larry. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

Hello and welcome to the family...so to speak...Rick is dad.
I have a 1951 austin A40 Devon, the photo shows it at the BRM DAY last Sunday.
I let a friend drive it to the event and take part in the parade as I took another car along its baby brother...an Austin A30.
I have owned the car about 1 year having purchased it from a friend who has given some of his car collection.
It has only had three owners all its life,an interesting story explained elsewhere on the forum.
I may be able to help out with some parts if you need anything.

The one thing I am going to need help with is sourcing a complete interior (front and rear seats) although in fairness the front seats can be reupholstered but the rear seats will need replacing completly as the actual frames are ruined.
If any one knows of any I would be glad to hear.

Is there a way to tell if a vehicle has its original registration number or has been given an age related one? I have no original documents with my A40, just the reg. doc which I've just received in my name _________________ Regards John

Will the DVLA not help?
Otherwise contact the Oxford county records office (YUD is Oxford??)
There may be an outside chance they stilll have the records. Usually have to pay a small amount. Worth a try. I did this with my cars; I received a photocopy of the original documentation (1953) with evidence of Chassis and engine number. Original plate number had been reassigned! With my second car from a different county (Glamorgan) they had unfortunately lost the records for 1930 to 1935..oh well! |

Sadly that is an age related plate, sold very recently too, as they are now up to YUN. I'd say the previous owner had the original off it. _________________ Richard Hughes |
