|

I haven't yet been able to find a link/photo for this actual show.
The pickers bought an unrestored J40 Austin Pedal Car. Light grreen with some rust and rotten tyres, but otherwise it was all there. Paid $2000 USD (£1700). Expected to get $2800 on resale, as is.
I think they paid far too much. Seeing that the majority of these pedal cars were sold in the US and Canada, I would expect them to be less rare than in the UK.
I did a quick Google, and found a company that produces GRP J40 bodies. Winter project anybody ? |

We all seemed to have pedal cars as children where I lived .
I had a Ford Zodiac MK1 pedal car and a lad round the corner in the next street had an Austin J40 pedal car.
If I remember rightly two of you could sit in it,and as small children they were very heavy trying to lift them up the kerb or over obstacles.
Then in later years the adults spoilt our fun by getting interested in them.!!!!

Exactly Rick, they do take up a lot of room, if I remember ...5ft long!
I still have mine but unfortunately what with not very good circumstances recently, work on the J40 has stopped.
But I have kept it because I am still very keen on getting started on it once again.
I periodically look at the prices of J40's and really can't believe the ridiculous figures for what are basicly broken or knackered parts! |

Any old childrens toys are worth picking up on your travels...
Pedal Cars.
Tricycles.
Bicycles.
Corgi models.
I find that anyone with a few shillings to spare and with a nice large garage or barn has a small museum set out with their classic cars,a pedal car or two, petrol pumps and oil cans etc.
More and more people are investing in auto memorabilia pushing up the prices.
If you have a little knowledge of old things in general you cannot go wrong.
At the moment it is far better than investing your money into the regular portfolio`s.
Now where is that enamel shell sign I used to block up the broken fence.???
