Love the bull bars, they probably weigh more than the rest of the van |

Well a long overdue update............ I see that my last post containing any evidence of progress with this project was way back in November..... the big thing that has happened since then is that I managed to source a very good pair of doors from a very helpful TN Honda owner in Australia! So way back in December a plan was hatched and on January 20th the doors were "posted" via SEA MAIL.... Many thanks to him for making this happen!
So you may remember from page 3 of this thread, I uncovered the bad news about the doors, here's a reminder:
and as the truck is supposed to look like this fixing these poorly repaired doors was probably beyond my fabrication abilities:
So here were my doors without any filler in, excuse the dodgy trainset:

So at the end of March, one Australian door arrived, followed a few days after by the second door, and I am pleased to report, they contained no spiders
There was just a little rot in the drivers door, rectified here:

Then came an unexpected discovery.... the apertures for the door lock mechanisms on the Aussie doors is smaller than my UK spec ones, possibly because they are a little earlier than mine?
So as I only had my UK lock mechanisms, a small modification to both doors was required:
My door marked ready for surgery:
Lining them up was critical for the lock mechanism alignment and ultimately whether the doors would ever close properly again.....
More to follow....

Then, I am happy to report, (and so are my neighbours) that the next job was the last of the welding/cutting/grinding variety... the other dreaded B Pillar, at least I think that's what it's called:
I decided to tackle this in three parts, though I have no in progress pics of the last part of the repair....
That's all for now....... Thanks for reading, Steve |

You might not have been keeping the diary up to date Steve, but you have been working hard. Extreme parts sourcing going on there and a very brave and accurate modification done.
It reminds me,I must get on with my small project. |

Cheers lads, just to add, the reason I cut substituted such a large section
of that door in particular was due to accident damage in the Aussie door which by doing this I was able to deal with at the same time

Wow I missed this update Steve until now!!!!
Top work. Sourcing parts from Australia that is going above and beyond the call of duty for classics!!!!!!
That is a lot of filler in those original doors. I can't wait to see the finished article. Makes my strike plates look insignificant.

All ready for the MOT Test now...... which is booked for 23rd!
So fingers crossed.....
These repairs to the NSR side loading gate wer done by the previous owner, and found by me under about 5KG of filler.... so I am saving that
little rectification job for another day! Why do people weld repair plates on top of rust, and thus leaving them proud?

Looking good Steve. Best of luck with MOT, I am sure it will fly through. Just double check you have done all the nuts and bolts up. That's my biggest fear driving to the garage and the front wheels fall off or something |

Pleased to report that this little Honda PASSED it's MOT today.....
It is so small that it almost fell into the inspection pit
Driving there was great fun, I left home an extra hour early in case anything fell off, but it just meant I had to wait an extra hour for the MOT
on the road it reminds me of when I used to race a Kart.....
And a pic of the underneath where much of the hard graft was done:
Cheers Steve |
